OOM: The defense of Kattegut, the escape

The door from Milliways leads to a stable and the sounds of battle, metal clanging, wood splintering, and yells of pain and anger. Smoke hangs in the air from the barricades the villagers set to make things difficult for the ships of Jarl Borg. No other fires have been set however. Perhaps Jarl Borg is planning on moving in and so doesn't want to damage the buildings.

"We must find Aslaug and Siggy, and collect any others we may as well. Remember the words I taught you," Rollo says before the door to Milliways closes, taking the Bar's translation field with it.

Most of the fighting that Will's done has been with a mixture of civilians and soldiers, he's used to informing people that he's safe.

He watches the fires and when he sees a man with a torch, he goes for him, gesturing to an old man who seems hurt to run.

The old man waves dismissively at Will but yells at those not so wounded, [Go run! Valhalla can wait another year!]

As he does so, three much younger, and haler, Northmen notice Will and Hotsur, or rather they notice what the two are yelling, and charge.

[OOC: Just a quick note, any burning will be to a minimum as Jarl Borg wants the village for himself.]

This is about when Hotspur realizes he doesn't actually know Will's name-- so he just sort of shouts, and hopes that will be enough to draw Will's attention to the approaching Northmen as he rushes to encounter them. Clearly there's little point in attempting stealth here.

There are obvious disadvantages to the fact that Harry does not have the full armor he's accustomed to, but one upside is that he can move much more quickly and with far greater agility than he usually can in a fight. Even so, three on one is steep odds, and he shouts again for the other Englishman.

He hears the yell, it helps that Harry sounds English compared to everyone else and turns to stand near Harry. As he comes over, he takes down one of the Northemen makes the odd more even.

[harryhotspur]

"I am Harry Percy," he says once he has taken down the second. His eye is still on where to move next, but really, it's just too silly to fight next to a man without knowing his name. And this is an Englishman, he might even know it.

"Will Scarlett o'Nottingham,"

As he says his name, he nods while scanning the boats and houses for where to go next.

The name sounds vaguely familiar, but he doesn't have much time to consider it-- Northmen are bearing down on a group of villagers just ahead and Harry sets off towards them, sword at the ready.

Will follows after, striking at a man who was trying to get at Harry. As they near the villagers, he yells out their message but this time its more breathless.

There are more Northmen and he keeps near to Harry, not back-to-back exactly but near.

Harry keeps half-aware of Will and where he is, but he's mostly lost to the vicious joy of battle, buoyed by adrenaline and hardly noticing or caring when the odd blow glances home.

Harry's a pleasure to fight beside and Will takes a few strikes but the men who gives them never get a second chance.

He notices that the people seem to be fleeing which is good, its easier for him to be patched up then for them to die.

"Hsst."

There's a fellow Will might recognize in clothing more Milliways than Kattegat poking his head around the corner of one of the buildings.

"We got fuckers circlin' around to catch you from behind. Rollo sent me to warn y'all."

[harryhotspur]

Hotspur doesn't know him, but the man speaks English, so he must be on their side.

"We thank you for the knowledge of it," he says. "Sends Rollo any other word on how we must proceed?"

"Nothin' specific," says Shephard. "He was goin' after a couple of 'em to take 'em from behind himself last I saw him. Me, I'mma go warn the ladies before I run the rest of 'em down myself."

[harryhotspur]

"Then we shall do what we may to prevent their approach, and seek you out," Harry says.

[hecu_marine]

Shephard nods. "Name's Shephard," he says. "Good luck to the two of yinz. I'll see you again after the fightin'."

And off he goes.

[harryhotspur]

Hotspur turns to Will with a grin. "Why, then. Shall we go to meet them, ere we join our friends?"

[will_scarlett]

"Oh aye, we should as we wouldna want anyone else to come across 'em,"

Will had listened while Shephard talked and returns Harry's grin, with an eager smile.

[harryhotspur]

"Do you lead on," Harry says. "And I shall keep an eye behind."

[will_scarlett]

"Aye,"

He moves to see what movement he can spot and in one of the alleys between houses gestures to Harry before he starts forward. There's a glint of metal and he recognizes the furtive movement.

[harryhotspur]

All seems clear back behind them, so Harry is close on his heels. At the sight of movement up ahead, he starts forward-- but he did say Will could lead, didn't he. So he restrains himself until it's clearer whether Will is going to charge in, or opt for some stealth.

[will_scarlett]

Will's going for stealth as they can use the maze of houses to help them and he points to the other side of the alley. They should be able to trap the men.

[harryhotspur]

Ah-haaa. Harry gives a short not of understanding and edges over to where Will was pointing. This is definitely one advantage over his usual style: you can't really do sneaky when you're wearing armor.

[will_scarlett]

Sneaky is how Will's used to fighting and the men startle when they find the men they came to attack surrounding them.

Due to the dark in the alley, there's one more man than Will expected but the close quarters make it a tighter fight on all sides.

[harryhotspur]

These definitely aren't the kind of conditions Harry's used to, but he's doing well enough anyway. He finds himself pinned against a wall at one point, which seems poised to end badly, until he manages to force himself free.

[will_scarlett]

Fighting amid the houses makes Will miss Sherwood as he kicks a Northmen to get out of a tight spot. He looks over to Harry and starts to move to help when another man tries to trap them.
